Brittle

Darling, you've been tried in fire before.
You don't understand why it's changed.
Now, each time the storm blows,
you splinter, begin to break.

Once you bent, supple but strong,
your grace admired,
that spring in your step.

Since then your metal has been
too finely tempered,
blunted and re-sharpened
too many times.

I do not think you weak.
I only see this:
Test your mettle too much,
and it loses its edge, too.
